Because this doing it one at a time thing isn't working for me if I have any hope of catching up.

Day 6
In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.
1) If anyone participating in the Snowflake Challenge reads this all these days past when it was assigned, if you could do me a solid and peruse late entries to this and other challenges by people--like me--who are struggling to keep up? It's hard to keep going when you feel as if you're talking to yourself a bit, ya know? Of course, if you're reading this, you're probably already doing that, so I thank you mightily. And if you're not doing it, me asking is sort of moot as you're not here anyway and I truly am talking to myself. LALALALA, what else is new. Just forget this Catch-22 of a wish, yeah?
2) X-FILES SHENANIGANS Specifically Season 1-3 things. I've FINALLY started watching X-Files and I'm sort of loving it a ridiculous amount. But, I am a slow watcher and also super thirsty for fic and stuff--but don't want to get spoiled (I know, I am a special sort of PITA) so if you know of any good fics that were written during the first three seasons I would love some links. Especially since that is what "new" thing I wanted to try for the next day's challenge. ;)
3) If you are a crafty type person, please consider signing up for our geeky craft exchange!! It will be AWESOME!
Day 7
Stretch yourself a little and try something new.
Waiting for X-Files recs for this one. Though, someone was nice enough to link me to this beautifulness that I will now be singing for all of eternity:
Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.
YAY, again with the killing two birds with one stone (that I mentioned in Day 2's challenge) as stories were revealed at
hoggywartyxmas and I can (proudly even) claim the angst-fest that was Seared with Scars (not to be confused with the story I wrote last year for the Criminal Mind's fandom with the same name--oops--I just really like the quote it comes from apparently.)
Anyway, this is Neville/Luna, Ghost!Remus with an appearance by Draco, Snape and Teddy
Summary: Luna and Neville are having a tough time moving on from what they went through in the War when they are visited by a ghost of their past.
Since most people commented on the fic that they had never read a Luna (or Neville) like this--bitter and a holding on to a grudge like WHOA, I thought I'd share a few other fics I've written that have made this Luna and Neville sort of my head canon.

Summary:
This was the first real story I ever wrote about Luna and it really set my head canon in stone. It was written over 10 years ago, so I'm terrified to re-read it, but I remember it being good? I remember it got a bit of love on the archive it was originally written for--now defunct. So, *shrug* I hope it stands up to the test of time. One note--when I wrote this, Luna's mom didn't have first name so I gave her one, apparently it was the wrong one. I'm not sure if I changed it when Pottermore (was it Pottermore that gave her a name? I can't remember) revealed her. I don't read (or care too much) about what Pottermore has to say.
The Room of Respite (Neville/Luna) takes place directly after Neville declares his love to Luna in the movie. ♥
And one more, this time Neville/Remus that takes a different look at Neville's issues with Snape. This was also from the
hoggywartyxmas fest a few years ago.

Day 9
Commit an Act of Kindness.
First a anecdote from a IRL Act of Kindness. I've always wanted to be one of those people who picks up the tab for my fellow coffee drinkers at my local Starbucks, but firstly, I never have that kind of money. But, more importantly, I was reading a thing about how that's really not the greatest sort of kindness--picking up the tab for someone who obviously has the money to drop on an expensive cup of coffee already. Not when you walk by the homeless person on the way in, and not when you commit this act with the help of a barista making minimum wage to these people who can afford these expensive coffees. And while I do have a few arguments with this--first, not everyone in that line are super wealthy--I for one use Starbucks as a reward not a habit--and two, baristas at Starbucks more than most food service jobs are actually treated really well (or they were when my sister worked there). But still...
So today, instead of walking by the homeless person and ordering coffees for all my fellow coffee drinkers, making my barista do all the work, I stopped and asked the homeless man if he'd like my free coffee, if not to drink, to use to keep his hands warm--he did. Then instead of buying coffee for the barista--like they need that--I asked her if she wanted my full punch card for the restaurant next door--she did.
And none of this is told to get any sort of kudos--it literally cost me nothing--but just ruminating on a lesson I learned.
Now for fandom kindness. On Day 5
hannah shared a link to
fandomtrumpshate which is a community like the Help Haiti and Help Japan ones of old and I was overjoyed that that was still a thing that fandom did (and turns out they've been doing it for 3 years now--oooops). So, I think I'm going to offer a few crafts. Wish me well!
Day 10
Create a fanwork.
I don't have anything to show for this now. I am working on my Chocolate Box and that in itself is sort of a big deal because I usually need more time to ruminate, but this time I have a plethora of ideas and at least two fandoms to consider so YAY! I'm starting now!
But, I also am toying with the idea of trying my hand at podficcing after seeing
analise010's Day 5 post where they link to a tutorial for want-to-be podficcers like me, I thought I'd finally give it a shot. Anyone have any stories they want podficced? They'd have to be short. Bonus points if they're a fic from any of the first three seasons of X-Files. ;)
AND HOLY SHIT--I AM CAUGHT UP!!for about an hour or two

Date: 2019-01-11 11:03 am (UTC)Added a few of ur fics to my to-read list! I've never read for Neville/Luna before, so that'll be interesting! Interestingly enough, I don't see Luna much in the fics I read at all :( I know she's not like... part of the golden trio, but she was still a good friend of Harry's. It makes me sadder the more I think about it dfghj I'll be glad to get some Luna fic in my life, now!
Honestly I put 0 stock into literally anything Pottermore has to say dfghjk I already had a lot of headcanons set in stone I wasn't willing to give up (namely thanks to a lovely on-going Remus fic that I base 90% of my HCs on), but like... not to be a non-canon shipper or anything but I absolutely hate they decided to throw in that Tonk was the "first and only" person Remus ever loved like??? I think that killed any potential favorable feelings toward Pottermore on the spot dfghjjhgffgh
Oh wow! I need to comb through more of the Snowflake posts. I went through Day 2 pretty thoroughly, but from look of that link, Day 5 has some gems to offer *eyes*

Luna is my favorite female character. ♥ I love her with Neville and I've also written her with Harry (she's the only girl I've ever really paired him with). I hope you enjoy how I've written her. ♥
I absolutely hate they decided to throw in that Tonk was the "first and only" person Remus ever loved like??? They said what now?!?!?! Are you fuckin' kidding me?! I mean, I like Tonks and some people have written some compelling things about what a relationship between them would look like, but REALLY?? JFC. I refused to read what Pottermore had to say about him. Like you, I already had a pretty deep-seated canon that I was not willing to lose.
but from look of that link, Day 5 has some gems to offer *eyes* Oh man, you can get LOST in Day 5's post. SO MANY THINGS TO CHECK OUT!! Enjoy!

Date: 2019-01-11 04:58 pm (UTC)So far this year I'm actually keeping up and staying on top of all the comments, which is a first, I think. It is a HUGE time commitment, though, and I may eventually have to throw in the towel in order to preserve a bit of sanity. :)

Date: 2019-01-12 03:04 am (UTC)It is a huge time commitment but I keep reminding myself that it only last for the first two weeks and then I get to return to my lurking, half-ass being-here-ness that always happens after. ;)

Snowflake Challenge 2019
Date: 2019-01-11 04:40 pm (UTC)I've bookmarked your fic to read later. (Snowflake has given me a reading list that feels like it's going to last me the whole year though.)
I think I most appreciate podfic for the really long stories that I don't have time to read (so I can listen to them while cleaning etc), but I understand you want to start with shorts while you're getting the hang of it. (This is also why I think podficcers are pretty amazing because recording a long story has to take way longer than just reading the story that I already think is long.) I have two shorts that I'm always trying to promote: Sometimes They're Just Dicks (1,516 words), it's The Dead Zone which hardly anyone watched but the story itself is just a bunch of dick jokes so you don't need to know the characters or backstory to read it, and Old Muppets Never Die (2,007 words), which is an almost-serious story about the Muppets attending a funeral.
Re: Snowflake Challenge 2019
Date: 2019-01-11 10:12 pm (UTC)Haha, right? Snowflake recs can seriously keep you going for an entire year (and then some) I hope you enjoy them! ♥
And those fics sound fun! I"m going to check them out. I think I need to start with short to make sure it's something that I'm going to see the value of creating. I don't know how I'm going to like my outloud reading voice when it's not directed at babies and toddlers who are much easier to please. ;)

Date: 2019-01-11 09:09 pm (UTC)Not to argue with your general point, but Starbucks often pays above minimum wage (not in CA, but here the minimum wage itself is considerably higher than federal) and actually offers okay benefits. Slightly less evil than some other low-wage players we could mention.
