According to Fable, at this speed, I will reach my 2025 reading goal by August. 😍😍

Oh, and hey, let's follow each other on Fable! (That link will give us both 5$ to spend on books through their stores and I'll love you forever. ❤️)

And before I begin, this is where I beg you to join Fable (and give you a cool invite code that gives us both $$ for one of their interactive ebooks). Fable is AWESOME! ❤️

March 2025 ) And that was my March. How about you all?

Challenge #12 Create a Rec Countdown

I know I'm obscenely late and who needs recs anyway? Oh, but wait, maybe now is the perfect time to rec, after the season is over when you're done reading all the stories your had bookmarked to read, after you've checked out all the communities/ discords/ books that everyone has already suggested. Here I come out of the kindness of my woefully procrastinatey heart with a post just for you. YAY ME!

Buckle up, this is going to be long! I can't believe how much I read in the shortest month of the year. I don't even know how it happened besides joining book clubs and following interesting people who recommend interesting books both here, and on Fable. (if you join through that link-- and everyone should be on Fable! It's awesome-- both you and I will get a 5$ credit for one of their interactive ebooks).❤️

I guess it also helped that it was SOOOOOO fuckin’ cold there wasn't anything else to do. 😍😍

February 2025 ) So, that was my February. How about you?

Challenge #11

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.
First of all, I'm skipping 10 on purpose. I'm not in the right headspace right now for this one.

So, on to tropes and themes!

Found Families Are The Best Families )
And really, I think the thing I seek out in fiction is the same thing I look for in fandom spaces, people who ~get~ me, who accept me as I am, who share my weird quirks and obsessions and my secrets. ❤️❤️

So, what's your favorite books/ shows/ movies that feature Found Families? Here are some of mine:

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
The Last Binding Series by Freya Marske
Legends and Lattes, and Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldtree
Pretty Much Anything by TJ Klune (seriously, there's a reason I'm obsessed!)

Challenge 8: In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for a beloved character, relationship or fandom.

It's like joining a cult. A gay werewolf cult.  )

Ox is just too precious for this world. Your heart will break for him. You will want only good things to happen to him, want only people who see his worth. You will fall in love with a rough and tumble garage mechanic who takes him under his wing and protects him and his mother. You will marvel at the little boy who finds him on the side of the road and introduces him to an extraordinary life that he could have never imagined.

You will meet a family that loves with every thing they are and you will grieve with them as they struggle with loss and a need for vengeance.

I want to convince you all to read Green Creek, but I also don't want to give away any of the reasons why because I don't want to take away from the discovery of it. But, here, I found this and I think it does a good job of explaining a lot of the reasons it's a Must Read without giving too much away.

I can't believe February is almost halfway over already. Oh well, better late than never (basically my epitaph, I guess).

Almost done with this year. I'm trying to get to 100 books read this year. I'm at 96. 😱😱 Wish me luck! i DID IT! 102 actually!

Here's what I read in November:

”November” ) And now, since I took so long with this, here, let's do December too!

”December” ) And that's it! Only took me a month to write this. But, who knows, maybe I can finish one more before the end of the year. 🤣🤣 Either way, I'll have some re-cap, readerly, year end thinky thoughts here soon, I'm sure. And I'll want to hear all about your reading journey this year, too!❤️❤️

July and August Reads!

Did I ever mention that I took a 3 week vacation to New Zealand in July? Did I mention that when I returned, I had a week to pack up, say goodbye to the life and the people in it for the last 25ish years and take me, a UHaul trailer and my bb!SUV across the country to the town I was born and raised, but haven't lived in for over 30 years? And now I live here, and work here and how weird that is?

So yeah, those things happened. And reading happened, but me coming here and sharing any of that fell by the wayside as it sometimes does, even though I try really hard for it not to.

So, first books, then everything else:

July Reads! In a nutshell ) Let's see if I can do this before ANOTHER month goes on. It helps that I only read half the books in August as I did in July. Who knew that packing, driving cross country and settling into a new job (and new life) would slow down reading?

BUT, I did get my bestie [profile] apythia hooked on Green Creek in our 5 day trip across the country, so, I'll take the hit to my lack of new stories being consumed.

Now, on to the list!

August in a (hopefully) expediated nutshell )

And phew! Done just in time for September's List. 🤣🤣 That one is (sadly) even shorter. And will have to wait, because I've missed talking of books with you all, so I want this posted. 😍 What are you all reading?
tjs_whatnot: (writing--quit my shitty job)
Hello! How have you all been?

I'm hanging in there, have so many things going on that I will hopefully one day soon come here to regale you with. But for now, here is how I've been keeping myself creative. Firstly, my first ever WIP type story:

And this is just a little one-shot of a moment that came to me while re-listening to Heartsong. *sigh* Why isn't there a bigger fandom around this series? *sighs more*

I Just Know (1098 words) by tjs_whatnot
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Green Creek Series - T.J. Klune, Heartsong- T.J. Klune

Robbie isn't ready. Kelly knows this. He knows that for every memory of them being in love and being too precious to be real, there are memories of a monster. A monster that looks like him. Has his eyes. His jawline and his snarl. A monster that turned on his own pack, who tore, who ripped flesh from bones. A monster who liked it.

So they wait. While they wait, Kelly is his memory, and it is enough.
