Hi. I'm wendelah1 everywhere except at Tumblr, where I'm wendelah and 201daysofxfiles. Despite everything, I still love Dana Scully and I'm still writing fanfic for a series that began airing in 1993. I also love Fringe and The Americans, and have written fic for both. I love Yuletide. I love to read. I'm a retired, (early due to disability) former RN. My pinned post tells a little bit about me. Since the middle of last year, I've been locking my posts but I grant access to anyone who asks.
Before the snowflake challenge began, since election day all I've been doing in my spare time is reading the news in horror, posting links, and subscribing to every Resist Trump newsletter I could find. I volunteered to help with it because I needed a break from obsessing about the election results.
Hello! I'm tjs_whatnot everywhere. I haven't watched X-Files because I used to be a big baby, but I've been pushing myself to get over it and after watching Fringe on repeat, a few seasons of Supernatural and other shows like those, I think I'm ready for Mulder and Scully. You're saying I shouldn't watch the new episodes?
I've pretty much been living in a bubble of fantasy and Utopian fiction, while also rocking in the fetal position humming in a corner since November 8th. :(((( It still feels a nightmare. I still haven't processed my anger and fear. Maybe that will be for the end of January. KILL ME NOW!!
I would not start with the new episodes. I was disappointed with them. However, I can find or make you a list of episodes to sample, just to get a feel for the series. Just let me know if you're interested.
Most people who love Fringe (I am one--I own all five seasons, I ran a rewatch comm, I ran a gift exchange. lol.) loved The X-Files first. The creators of Fringe love The X-Files. And it is canon that they exist in the same universe, too. Fringe isn't perfect but it's a much better written show than The X-Files. The X-Files is a much messier canon, but those flaws led to the creation of so much wonderful fix-it fic.
I would LOVE a X-Files primer, a handful of episodes to judge if it's for me. The thing that got me super invested in Fringe (and why did I never find the fandom for it?!?) are the characters, their relationships and how they transform over the years. I have a feeling it would be the same way with Scully and Mulder. ♥
I haven't yet. I don't subscribe to Netflix. (Because I'm cheap.) I'm waiting impatiently for it to come out on DVD so I can request that my library purchase it...so maybe this time, next year. Sooner if I'm lucky.
When you say a handful, does that mean three or four? Six? More than six?
It's a funny question for me because I got hooked on the show by reading fanfic.
I watched the first couple (?) seasons of Fringe (until there was a viewing conflict, or something). How did they work in canon same 'verse as X-Files?!! I never watched the X-Files, but I'm very curious about that.
It must have been subtle because besides Joshua Jackson and others involved with the show talking about how much they loved X-Files and wanted to do a crossover movie when the new season was announced, I never picked up on it. But, like I said, I never watched X-Files and wouldn't know what to be looking for.
A few of us have taken that and run with it, though not as many as I might have hoped. I've written three Fringe/XF crossovers and have plans for a fourth.
It was from the first episode of the second season, "A New Day in the Old Town." I'm not surprised by that. It was definitely an easter egg meant for X-Philes. There are many others but that was the most blatant.
Haha, I do remember that! It makes sense you'd need one division for weird goings on as the result of human beings (in two different worlds) and of aliens, yes?
Can't wait to watch X-Files so I can find crossover fic! I crossed Fringe and White Collar once, but that was completely different! ;)
And six episodes should be good. Your favorite 6 eps that fully articulate how amazing these characters are. Your going to sell me on character way more than plot. ;)
Hi! I'm spikedluv everywhere (LJ/DW/Tumblr/Twitter, though I'm most active on LJ/DW). As many people do, I discovered fandom via BtVS, though back then it was Yahoo groups. *g* For a short while I was monofannish, but that ship has pretty much sailed. Heh, no pun intended. I'm a slasher and an OTP'er. I love to share my obsessions (mostly in an attempt to get other people to join me so I'm not obsessing alone).
I have a few 'large' fandoms I participate in to a greater or lesser extent (Teen Wolf, Captain America, AOS/The Avengers, AI RPS) and a multitude of small fandoms, which is where I spend most of my moderating time (I'm currently running a small fandom bb and fest). Hit The Floor (really Jude and Zero) is my latest fandom and the place where I'm spending most of my writing time.
Non-fannishly, we have two dogs (Beau[regard] and Ti[conderoga]) and a gaggle of nieces and nephew ranging in age from 27 to 7. (We thought we were done until my baby sister got married and started spitting out kids. *g*)
Ahhhh, your name sounds really familiar. Did you run the Shelter community that had monthly re-watches? I loved those!!
I love small fandoms! I usually get sucked into a lot of HP fests because there are just SO MANY! Still. But every year while writing and consuming at Yuletide, I sm reminded how much I love small fandoms. Your readership might be potentially smaller, but way more appreciative and supportive.
I did, yes! I still do mod that comm, but the fandom got very quiet that even winter fests and re-watches couldn't pull people out of the woodwork. *sad face*
Yeah, I think I found that movie at the tail end of all that. I remember a few re-watches and maybe one fest. It wasn't until a few years later for yuletide that I felt confident enough to write for it myself, but I've always loved reading the stories.
If you ever get the urge to write the boys again, there are a lot of Shelter prompts at smallfandomfest (currently still open for Round 20 til the end of the month, omg!).
Hello, my name is analise010 and I makenpodfic. That means, I record all the porn you read and throw it on the internet for your aural pleasure. I'm multi-fannish, but very OTP-ish. Right now, I'm deeply into Yuri!!! On Ice and everything Yuletide.
You can find me here (almost exclusively during the Snowflake Challenge), on tumblr as analise010, and on AO3 as Readbyanalise010.
We have a community called amplificathon where a lot of podfics get posted, but honestly, we use AO3 just like everyone else. You can type 'podfic' into the search bar and try out different stories.
Awesome, thanks! I get so wrapped up in my own familiar things, that I often forget that things there are wonderful new things out there to explore. I shall remedy this forthwith!
Hey You! have you any new Sherlock thoughts? What's your Sunday plan? I watched it again last night pausing and looking at details. Didn't find anything to exciting besides Culverton's ad on the bus stop, which someone else pointed out. what's your tumblr name? {{{hugs}}}
I sadly haven't had time to ponder and contemplate my varied and sundry thoughts and feelings on last week's Sherlock. :( I'll probably try and watch it again before Sunday.
I'll be home all weekend getting my life in order, or more ordered. Maybe we could watch that one together virtually and then get together the last Sunday to weep/cheer/what have you together?
And my tumblr name is the same. I think I follow you already.
Hi! I spied on your Yuletide letter and saw you like Voodoo from Sirens :D :D I'm ace too and she was so important to me ;__; I'm so sad the show was canceled but I'm glad we had at least 2 seasons.
My favourite Voodoo moment was probably when she catched the snake x) what's yours?
Sirens, and specifically Voodoo and Brian, was the first time I was one episode into a show before I was already on Tumblr looking to see if everyone else was as fuckin' jazzed as I was about its ace perfectness. I just loved it so. I just devoured it! But I'd have to watch it again (which I will be doing super soon) to pick out a favorite. ♥
♥♥♥ Thanks for the rec, I loved it! Her watching Serendipity reminded me of myself when I decided to watch it and also when I watched Love Actually XD they were too much for me.
♥♥ Awww! Now I'm starting to crave a rewatch too x)
I started watching it after seeing stuff on tumblr because I couldn't believe there was an ace character :D That tf was a gift ♥♥
Haha, I liked Serendipity because I'm a sucker for coincidences, fates and whatnot and also for John Cusack, but it got a bit much after awhile. Love Actually was actually painful! My favorite part of the entire movie was the father and son. ♥ Pooooor Liam.
I don't even remember why I started. I think there was a marathon of it or something... but IDK as I feel it was already cancelled before I'd seen it. No idea, but I'm sooooo glad I did. So funny, yes, but also so real on so many levels. ♥
Awww I see, it must have been perfect for you then XD Me, I watched it because I liked the premises but it got too much too fast, but yeah Love Actually was worse. I remember them, they were cute but I was like "Isn't he too young to be in love?!??", I think I also found cute the storyline with writer and the woman that didn't speak English at the beginning :)
It's always like that with the good tf, they're over before you know it because they're too engaging! True ♥
