Fandom Snowflake Challenge #5 and #6
Jan. 11th, 2024 04:10 am
Search in your current space, whether brick-and-mortar or digital. Post a picture (a link to a picture will be fine!) or description of something that is or represents:

Lucien O’Donnell loves French Toast. Especially made my Oliver Blackwood. Boyfriend Material
2. Something that makes you laugh
Roy Kent. So much Roy Kent. But, this whole episode of Ted Lasso was a masterclass on how to take a joke, a theme, a trope, a metaphor and infuse it in EVERY little thing. The joke, the theme? Rom-Communism. ♥(the quote that got cut off in the picture says: "Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at Coach." ♥
3. A fandom place you would like to visit
Hartbridge Montana. If I were to make a movie about NR Walker’s Hartbridge Christmas series (and seriously someone should! Queer Hallmark? YES PLEASE!which is odd because Hetero-Hallmark? Hard Pass) this would be the town I used. Big Sky Montana. Montana always holds a special place in my heart.
4. A fandom creator you'd like to meet
Dan Levy ♥ This was a toss up between he and Taiki Waititi, but after watching the behind the scenes of Schitt’s Creek documentary and some Vogue-ish interviews where he just walks you around his apartment and talks about things, I’d like more of that, please. Even things I don’t really think too much about--like fashion--I’d want his hot-takes on. ♥ (plus, I saw a TedTalk with Taiki and it somehow gave me so much anxiety and I don’t even know why.)
5. Something you find comforting
Reading. In a hammock. On a Beach. Or a mountain. Or just in nature. All my comforts in one. ♥
6. Something from a favorite TV series or movie from your childhood
The Outsiders ♥ My first fandom before I knew a thing--or that word--existed. I wrote a massive thing here long ago, but short version. This book/movie and this character specifically owned my 12 year old heart. I even got to write a little story about him a while ago *sigh*
7. A piece of clothing you love
I talked about The Suit here but if you just want the part of that post relative to this picture it was this: There was this suit. This 3 piece suit and I don’t even know why I even glanced at it, let alone ran my fingers along the lapel, stroked the fabric, glanced at the size and thought…well… why not try?
Let me tell you, if I ever make a movie of my life, that moment would only be authentic if it was done in slow motion, with flare lighting and some dramatic music. The way it slid over my arms and hung off my shoulders, the way it made me feel. I can’t even describe it. The man giving it away insisted that I MUST have it, which was good because there was no way I was taking that jacket off. Not then and not for the rest of the day. ♥
8. A book or song with a color in the title
Red, White and Royal Blue. I mean, that's a no-brainer. It's got THREE COLORS right there in the title. :D But, also, this was not only one of my favorite books I discovered last year, it was also one of my favorite movies (I've watched it WAY TOO MANY TIMES!), it was also my gateway back into Queer Romance and all that it can be. ♥
9. Something only someone in your fandom would understand
I sort of want to just leave this here as a IYKYK bit, but it's too fun and if it entices even one person to read the books, I'll consider it a win. So, in Boyfriend Material, Luc keeps trying to get Oliver to send him Dick Pics, but Oliver refuses, instead he starts sending him random pictures of famous people named Richard. ♥ ♥ STOP IT BUT THEY ARE PERFECT!!!
And oh man, I hope this cut worked. If not, I'm SOOOO sorry, flist. ♥
Challenge #6 In your own space, share a favourite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.
*sigh* Really, what is there to say? But, what I want to know is how is NO ONE using this as a starting point for EVERY Heartstopper fic ever written?!?! I've yet to read ONE story that uses this information! I mean, I would, but I don't speak French AT ALL and I think Google translate would make my attempt laughable at best! But, COME ON FRENCH SPEAKING HEARTSTOPPER FANDOM! Help a girl out! ♥
And that's it. That's two for one and I'm now officially caught up again. ♥

Date: 2024-01-11 11:30 am (UTC)I really need to watch that show already.
I enjoyed your answers to the previous challenge, too. Especially your answer about Roy, he's fab!

Date: 2024-01-11 05:39 pm (UTC)And guh! Roy Kent is just... I can't even with him. 😍😍

Date: 2024-01-11 11:34 am (UTC)I love Heartstopper, but my French is high school level.

Date: 2024-01-11 05:42 pm (UTC)And yeah, Heartstopper is great, and there are a lot of great fic out there for them, but that one kink... GUH! I want it! 😭😭

Date: 2024-01-11 03:14 pm (UTC)My French is rudimentary (my husband was my translator) but I can put headphones on and try for you? It doesn't sound complicated so Google translate would probably work fine.
In today's political climate, that this exists feels like a miracle. Thanks for sharing it.
"Hamish is certain he’s crashed right into a Hallmark Christmas movie, despite more car delays and road closures and the prospect of not seeing his sister for Christmas. And with help from Hamish, Ren is beginning to feel a little Christmas cheer."
I feel as though I might have already read this? Doesn't matter, the great thing about no longer having a functional brain is that everything is new again! Anyway, there is an audio book (I love audio books now, never cared for them before, weird right), which I've put on hold.
Montana is a beautiful state from what I can see in the pictures--I haven't been there since I was a kid.

Date: 2024-01-11 05:52 pm (UTC)And yes! I think all the Hartbridge Christmas Series is on audio and they're great fun with at least the first two, half of the couple are from Australia so the narrator has to do Australian AND Montana accents. ❤️ SO GREAT!
❤️Montana is AMAZING! I lived there for 4 years when I was in my 20s (many, many moons ago) and it's somewhere I'd still love to go back to live. ❤️

Date: 2024-01-12 01:16 am (UTC)I LOVE the way you did the scavenger hunt like a collage/moodboard layout. Very fun. Also, I'm forever a Roy Kent fan.

Date: 2024-01-12 01:50 am (UTC)Haha, thanks, the mood board was more my frustration with uploading pics onto my journal so doing them all together more than aesthetics, but it helps that it looks cool. 😊
And Roy Kent, man. Just so... guh! I don't even have words!

Date: 2024-01-12 08:21 pm (UTC)Btw, I tried to understand what he was saying, but while I didn‘t get all of it it was mainly asking how he was (he‘s fine), then he asked his father if they were going to see each other this week (apparently not), then a bit I didn‘t get and See you soon.)
(no subject)
Date: 2024-01-14 03:55 am (UTC)And yes! I think that was exactly what he was saying because his dad is a dick and even though his son is right in the town that his father lives, he still can't stop everything (or anything really) to see him. The part you didn't get was his father saying unless he was free that very moment for like a quick coffee. He really is the worst. 😭😭

Date: 2024-01-16 03:31 pm (UTC)I loved the book when I read it. :3 Someday I need to see the movie version.
(no subject)
Date: 2024-01-16 08:08 pm (UTC)(and read it so much I committed it to memory.)I can't imagine what I would think about the movie now if I watched it for the first time. It is VERY 80s. But you also do get to see where a lot of people got their starts--from the director Francis Ford Coppola to Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise and a whole bunch of others). ♥
