Work In Progress Wednesday

So, I thought this might be a fun way for me to be here with you all on a weekly basis. Every Wednesday, come and share a bit of what you're working on, whether it be fic, craft, art, meta or anything in between. It doesn't have to be fandom-related. But, if it's for a anonymous fest and your stuff is to be secret, then maybe don't share that? You could share any struggles, achievements and whatnot though.
Feel free to read other people's entries (if anyone else does this that is) and cheer/commiserate/bemoan with them.

Date: 2019-01-23 07:00 am (UTC)that I haven't written yet, here is the beginning of some crack I've had in the back of my mind forever, butRemus slowly and painfully opened his eyes. He was prepared for anything.
Almost.
“Hello there, meow, meow.”
Was that a cat puppet? Was it talking to him? In cat?
He closed his eyes tight and opened them again, hoping for better results. Nope, still a cat puppet, sitting on a tree limb, looking very anxious.
“Oh dear, oh dear, meow, meow. Are you okay?”
Remus sat up, every muscle in his badoy protesting, and looked around. He closed his eyes again. He’d woken up after a full moon in a few truly strange, hard to explain places, but this? This was by far the strangest.
Haha, this is going to get ridic!

Date: 2019-01-23 07:04 am (UTC)I promised my sister art for her birthday and I'm now shamefully late with that.
I'm working on both a fun fanfic and an original story as far as writing goes and have even started writing drabbles.
However, everything is on hold this week after I got the notice that my landlords are doing an annual inspection of all the units on Thursday and my place was a disaster area. But after Thursday, fun projects!

Date: 2019-01-23 09:22 am (UTC)She shrugged. “Around the time we lost.”
“Ever heard the one where it’s not over ‘til it’s over?”
“We’re dead. We’ve been dead for maybe a year now. I think it’s pretty over.”
“Maybe not.” She looked at him. “Hela claims she knows where Thanos has gone.”
For a few seconds, there was silence. Then, her expression went alert, the colour of her eyes deepening as she looked at him. “You’ve known this for a while.”
“You’d have known earlier if you’d been awake.” He refused to feel guilty about it. “The Wakandans were planning to call you in, but you were sleeping, so they left you.”
“I see. And in exchange for telling us where Thanos has gone, she wants...?”
“She wants to go with us when we go up against Thanos.”
“If we do.”
Nick frowned. “Why wouldn’t we? We’ve got nothing to lose at this point – not even our lives. And if we got hold of the Infinity Gauntlet, we might just be able to change things around.”
“Is that what you’re planning? Find Thanos, get the Infinity Gauntlet off him, and revert everything back to the way it was?”
“You got a better idea?”
In the silence that followed, he watched her. Her struggle wasn’t obvious, but he’d been watching her for the last dozen years, and he knew how her mind worked. Pride wasn’t the first thing that came to mind when most people thought of Maria Hill, but it was the first thing Nick had noticed about her as a new recruit to S.H.I.E.L.D. Not pride in herself and what she could do, but pride in a job done well.
Losing the world wasn’t a job done well.
“No,” she said at last. “I don’t.”

Date: 2019-01-23 12:28 pm (UTC)These are my favorite lines:
“We’re dead. We’ve been dead for maybe a year now. I think it’s pretty over.”
And:
Not pride in herself and what she could do, but pride in a job done well.
Losing the world wasn’t a job done well.
Good Luck in Finishing!

Date: 2019-01-23 12:14 pm (UTC)Deep, huh? Wish it had more cat puppets, honestly.
"Daniel dug the toes of his sneakers into the edge of the sand pit where the smaller children played. His discussion in the cell with Jack twisted in his stomach. After all these years, he hadn't known – hadn't realized. Jack still hated himself. Hated himself for Charlie's death. Down deep, buried where others couldn't see it day by day, Jack would never feel worthy. Worthy of Ascension. Hell, worthy of friendship, of life.
What hurt the most was that Daniel should have known. And, if he was being honest, in some corner of his heart, he had. For two men so separated by philosophy and personality, Daniel and Jack had twin souls. Hearts filled with the pain of loss and the gnawing teeth of guilt. Daniel had chosen to go, to ascend so that he could throw off his past and chase through the universes to help others, to purge his sins. Jack chose to stay. To live on and fight to protect others on Earth. Daniel hoped for a future where his sins could finally be purged – Jack, for all of his Catholic upbringing, believed in – welcomed - his eternal damnation. As if his son, Charlie, was waiting for him at the Judgment Seat, eager to see his father burn."

Date: 2019-01-23 05:23 pm (UTC)This post has also inspired me to say no to another Netflix binge tonight (you're well enough to go to work, self, so being sick is not an excuse anymore.). Instead, maybe I'll attempt to finish 2 squares of my latch hook rug. This is the project I'm working on. I've barely finished the first row, so lots to go!

Date: 2019-01-23 11:27 pm (UTC)I'm currently working on a TNG fic, Riker-centric. It's about 18k words and probably going to clock in around 20 or 22k when all is said and done. Here's a bit from the first scene (concrit welcome):
"Where am I?"
No one answered him.
On his hands and knees then, crawling along the floor in as orderly a search pattern as he could manage, searching for anything that would give him a clue, but the floor was just more of the same smooth metal, featureless except for the occasional scratch or dent. He felt each one carefully, thinking maybe they meant something, but of course they didn't. When he reached the end of the search grid that he had mapped in his head, he sat down in the corner, thinking.
Empty metal box, probably in space.
Had he been taken hostage? Was he someone's prisoner? If he was, where were they?
Riker got to his feet, tipped his head back and screamed, "Are you there? Answer me! What do you want?"
He got no reply. He had a bad feeling that there was no one around to reply. And that was terrifying.
A captor could be talked to, manipulated, fought, bluffed. You had a chance against an enemy.
How am I supposed to fight nothing? he thought, and sat back down.
Time passed. It was impossible to know how much. He was aware of thirst, and hunger. He searched the floor again, and then the walls, running his hands over every square centimeter of the room that he could reach, but the room remained stubbornly empty. He couldn't reach the ceiling, wherever it was. He jumped up experimentally several times, but even in the lower gravity the ceiling was too far above him to be reached. He sat down.
The Enterprise would be looking for him. Captain Picard would tear the Endicor system apart trying to find him.
It was a comforting thought, but the fact remained that solar systems were big, and already he was thirsty, and hungry. Endicor had an planet of over eight billion people, plus multiple space stations, some with populations nearing a million. Add to that the ships flying around, and it could take weeks, maybe months to sift through all of it. Riker didn't have weeks. He had, at best, seven to ten days without water, but realistically, he had less time than that. The room was warm--he'd broken a sweat just crawling around on the floor. He'd been injured, lost blood. Five days, maybe, before he died of dehydration.
The sensors on the Enterprise were good. The people on it were the best of the best. They'd be following every lead, trying to narrow down the search field. But it would be as much luck as skill for them to find him within five days.
And he was assuming he was still in the Endicor system. For all he knew, he was traveling at high warp out of the system.
Will Riker wasn't a man prone to panic, but his heart hammered in his chest as he contemplated spending days staring into the darkness with nothing to do except hope that he might be rescued in time.
"This sucks!" he announced to the empty room. The empty room echoed his words back to him as if in agreement.

Date: 2019-01-24 05:36 am (UTC)AHHHHHHH, this is so great! I love Riker and I love, love that last line!
IF you really want concrit, there was only one thing that I thought needed something added. IT's this line:
Empty metal box, probably in space.
Why probably? Does he feel movement like he's on a ship? Does he hear engines? What makes him think space is probable?
Totally easy to fix, or you could just leave it and maybe it's just me.
I definitely can't wait to read more!

Date: 2019-01-24 12:02 am (UTC)I’m currently working on finishing a line for each of two bingo challenges. The next fic will hopefully finish the last prompt in a line on my ladiesbingo card. The prompt is Undiscovered Countries.
Then I have two prompts to fill on my genprompt_bingo card.
After that there is always that new bingo challenge. :)

Date: 2019-01-24 09:06 pm (UTC)It had been seven years.
Mikey was still gangly, all arms and legs, but he wore it better these days. The awkwardness that had plagued him into adulthood was gone.
There were new wrinkles at the edges of Mikey's mouth and around his eyes. He hadn't shaved in a few days; his square jaw was stubble-y and there was the beginning of a terrible mustache above his mouth. His hair was buzzed close on the sides, spikey on top, a plain brown like Gerard's. Gerard hasn't seen Mikey's natural hair color since they were teenagers.
