Fandom Snowflake Challenge #4

Day 4
In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something.
I might come back and create something later. All those above suggestions sound fun and doable... but not right now. Right now I'm going to spend this time and space to pay tribute to other people's creations.
HoggyWartyXmas
Reveals happen on the 9th, and I'm not finished reading all the wonderful yet, but I want to get recs in before reveals. I always feel better about reccing things when I don't know who they are. I'm weird like that. It just feels more fair? IDK...
The Spoof is in the Pudding (Gen)
Summary: Summary: Hagrid's contribution to the holiday feast doesn't quite go as expected.
Reccer Notes: POETRY! HARRY POTTER POETRY! That alone makes it worth a read. Plus it's hilarious! A bit Dr. Seuss, a bit Night Before Christmas.
Above, Beneath, Betwixt, Between Binns/Grey Lady 12,500 words, mild R (I'd say pg-13 at most)
Summary: You’ve been fed all kinds of stories for years. Now here are some facts, and I think you’ll find them quite revealing.
Reccer Notes: I love, LOVE when people give stories and histories to characters we don't get in canon, the more obscure the character, the more detailed and imaginative the background, the better. This one is one of the best I'd read in a long time.
The Gift McGonagall/Trelawney (sort of), 6,700 words, PG-13
Summary: The staff New Year's eve gathering reveals just why Trelawney keeps to herself most of the time, and what it is that her inner eye shows her.
Reccer Notes: I'll be honest, at first I didn't think I was going to like it. It starts with a group os professors I respect being rather catty and sort of mean. But, then we get to Sybil and the entire fic is transformed and dazzles. I love the respect they show to Sybil, a character who is often the laughing stock or comedic relief. Very well done.
Mission Possible Severus and Minerva (GEN), PG-13, 2,700 words.
Summary: Fireside ghost story with a twist.
REccer Notes: PREZZIE FOR ME! It's such a perfect for me fic. It's got drunken shenanigans and a beautiful mix between humor and angst.
Baby, It's Cold Outside (Not to be confused with the two other pieces with this title. ;) Millicent, Pansy, Potrait!Snape, Hermione and Minerva (GEN-ish) G, 7,400 words.
Summary: Not only is it cold outside, but it's pretty freezing indoors. The first Christmas after the War looks to be cold and bleak unless Millie can do something about it.
Reccer Notes: First, it's pro-Slytherin in a 8th year fic like none I've read before, so that's something. Plus it's an amazing Hermione and a Millicent that makes my heart light and free. The relationship that I love the most though, is between Millicent and Portrait!Snape. I want a road trip fic with those two, a buddy cop shenanigans A/U. ♥
To Build on Rock McGonagall and Neville, (GEN) G, 10k words.
Summary: Minerva finds that someone else has been walking the school at night, someone who also can't forget the people lost in the second War against Voldemort. Together, they find healing for the Castle, and a way to move on for themselves.
Reccer Notes: I could just go on and on and inarticulately praise this piece and its beautiful language and the gorgeous characterizations and the subtle sense of healing and peace that runs through this story (and I really could), but I read it once and it was magical, then I read it again and cried the whole way through. It's just so freakin'... AHHHH! Just read it!
HOLY SHIT! That's a lot of recs! I think I just recced half the fest. It's just a really good fest, okay? I suggest you just go and read them all. If HP is your thing, that is. If not...
Yuletide
(So Far, I've only read in fandoms I absolutely loved from the letters S to Z, so this is not comprehensive AT ALL. But still, I nice place to start.)
Thursday Next and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Fic (4809 words) by drayton
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Thursday Next - Jasper Fforde
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Thursday Next, Miss Havisham
Additional Tags: Yuletide Treat, Alternate Universe
Summary:
Takes place shortly after Lost in a Good Book. Thursday Next has her first encounter with fanfiction, and it's nothing at all like the place from One of Our Thursdays Is Missing.
Bookmarker's Notes:Meta fic of the season!
Reports May Have Been Exaggerated (6858 words) by Fahye
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Spy (2015)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Susan Cooper/Rick Ford, Susan Cooper/Rayna Boyanov
Characters: Susan Cooper (Spy 2015), Rayna Boyanov, Rick Ford, Nancy B. Artingstall
Additional Tags: Yuletide Treat, Action/Adventure
Summary:
"Don’t be fucking absurd," said Ford. "If you can't remember, it's your loss, Cooper. We are better at sex than two people have ever been since the history of the world began. We are the fucking Torvill and Dean of sex."
Bookmarker's Notes:I love reading stories that you can TELL were a fuckin' riot to write! This reads like one of the best of that sort!

After the boys of summer have gone (5563 words) by pene
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Shelter (2007)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Shaun/Zach (Shelter)
Characters: Shaun (Shelter), Zach (Shelter), Cody (Shelter), Jeanne (Shelter)
Summary:
Building a life and settling in after summer is over.
Bookmarker's Notes:Perfectly matched the tone and feel of the movie, even the hard to watch parts, the dealing with family and the not understanding each other and where they're coming from parts. I loved it though, so very much. I think anyone wanting to live in Shelter's world for a little bit longer would.
Finally, this is just a random fic that I really loved and thought I'd share. This is why I know that recs work and are worth the time to make. I would have never found this fic if someone on my flist hadn't recced it on their journal. ♥
The Boxer-Puncher (11036 words) by one_flying_ace
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Daredevil (TV)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Matt Murdock/Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
Additional Tags: post-reveal, boxing fic
Summary:
“Matt, you’re my best friend, but you’re a goddamn idiot sometimes. It’s not about you. I’m not training, I’m not looking to get in a ring or do what you do. I just wanted to know a little more.” He says it fiercely, strongly, right into Matt’s ear like that’ll get it through to him any easier. “It’s not like I’m any good at it,” he adds, which is probably a mistake.
His heartbeat definitely spikes on the lie, because Matt flinches.
Half way through watching Daredevil and I needed this fic to fix my aching heart from the angst of Matt and Foggy's dealings with each other. Very masterfully done.
