Dear Yuletide Author
Oct. 14th, 2012 06:38 pmHave I mentioned that I love you?
I do.
Now... on to the letter:
In general I am very hard to disappoint and am VERY enthusiastic about the things I love, and of course these things I requested are things I love--A LOT. So, this should be easy and fun for you.
A bit about my likes in general and then I'll get into the nitty-gritty. I like STORY and CHARACTER and character development. I like dialogue heavy stories and emotional turmoil stories and characters dealing with their shit stories. I'm not too fussed with happily ever after but am a sucker for hopeful endings, or endings that leave something to the imagination (without reading as unfinished). I have nothing against romance and sex, but I'd like a story that might include that but not be entirely about that. I love experimental stylings, so feel free to use this opportunity to explore that epistolary story you've always wanted to write, or that second person risk you've always wanted to take. Always wanted to tell a story entirely through text messages? Go for it! Oh, which leads me to the next thing... humor. It's not necessary (especially if you are writing The Sparrow and your muse takes you the angsty route) but it is muchly appreciated. I love me some angst too, so that's cool, but I'm a sucker for witty dialogue and hijinks. I'm also a sucker for AU and crossovers (Sorkin meets Sorkin YES PLEASE!) if those are allowed.
Now, on to the specifics:
Sports Night: Okay, I have two stories I’d love to read in this fandom (of course that’s not to say that I wouldn’t love ANYTHING that was even close to Sorkin-ese.) But when I requested this fandom I had an idea of a pre-show story about Isaac and Sam. Remember that scene when Sam goes all bat-shit crazy against The Suits in defense of Isaac? What was that about? I mean, besides Sam being an amazing person of course ♥SAM♥ But, there is a story there, or a lifetime of stories. I’d like something about them.
Or, and this came to me immediately after signing up. And if you wanted to write an epistolary story, this would be the prompt for you. So, lets say that after the show ends everyone is sent all over the Sports News world, and so the story would take place post-show and would be told in letters as Dan is covering the Olympics (or something like that) I’d love to read what things he and Casey would write to each other, what Dana would have to say, or Jeremy... or any of them. That’s just a premise of course, you could do whatever you wanted with it. Or nothing at all...
The Newsroom: Quick confession. I haven’t even finished watching the season when I made this request. True story. I just LOVE the writing so much, most of the characters and just the idea of it. Charlie is my very favorite character and so any story with him would be amazing... even if it’s just him sitting at the bar talking to random other characters. I’d also love a pre-show story about he and Will. ♥WLL♥
Also, after hearing about the Missus Clause Challenge, I wanted to give you an opportunity to take part if you are so inclined. So, Sloan I love beyond reason and Mackenzie I love--most of the time. I would LOVE a story about these two where Will’s name is NOT MENTIONED EVEN ONCE. Up for the challenge? Give it to me!
Northern Exposure-- OLDEST LOVE! I loved this show when I didn’t know a thing called fandom existed... when a thing called the internet was a hazy reality that was for people “not me.” I watched it when it originally aired and then a few years later A&E (ahhh, remember when A&E used to stand for Arts and Entertainment? *sigh*) played them over and over and I watched each and every time. Just recently I started getting homesick for them (I used to live in places very much like Cicely--not so much anymore) and have been re-watching through Netflix.
So, it’s been a long time since all the precise storylines have been fresh in my mind, so feel free to go AU if you’d like, or play with canon. Really, I just love Chris Stevens so very much. I love his relationships, his insights, his quirky little life. Rewatching it this time, I was struck by how easy he and Joel’s friendship was. How, when Joel was mad at the world, he greeted Chris like an old friend. Is there a story there? Some bonding moment we missed? Or do they just get each other?
Ed! I love Ed, I love Marilyn! I love the culture, the way of life and would LOVE to have any story about them, about their tribe. If that’s not your thing, I totally understand. Basically, I’d love anything with these characters.
The Sparrow-- I can not tell you just how very much this book means to me. Basically Emilio Sandoz is my very favorite person in all the worlds. Anything you want to do with him would be lovely... although, please be a bit nicer to him than the Jana'ata, cool? I’d really love for you to give him a bit of a happy ending. And this might be delving into the sequel, so if you haven’t read that just write whatever you’d like and I’d love you forever... If you have read the sequel scroll down...

I’d LOVE a story with Emilio and his granddaughter. Just him doing grandfather things.

I do.
