Rules: List the first line of your last 10(posted)* fics and see if there’s a pattern!
*cheating by giving you one WIP, unposted thing because I only have 9 stories up before my AO3 is a mess of random stories gathered from all over the internet in no order. Oooops.
From unpublished story tentatively called “The Third Rail.” (Heartstopper)
For Charlie Spring, the streets of the city are still too loud, too chaotic and too dangerous, filled with the men who had hurt him, who had used him.
Not Yet (Wolfsong-Green Creek Series, Joe/Ox)
Ox had hated those two words.
Infinity (Miranda, Gary/Miranda)
“When did you know?” Stevie asks.
Glitter and Glow (Red, White and Royal Blue, Nora/Pez)
She holds his face in her hands.
Work/Life Balance (Red,White and Royal Blue, Nora gen)
Nora Hollaran sat on the plane.
Point Break (Veronica Mars, Dick Casablancas and Veronica Mars gen)
Ugh, you again," Dick says when he opens the door against his better judgment.
With Privilege Comes Responsibility (The West Wing, Josh & Leo)
”She was a good girl, Noah.”
Spaghetti Westerns (Rhinestone, Jake Farris/Nick Martinelli)
“Now what?” he asked, and he’s still breathing heavily, still glistening with sweat and his eyes are still dancing with the euphoria that only a live audience’s enthusiasm can create.
Where Nobody Knows Your Name (The Good Place, Janet gen)
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
While You Were Sleeping (Veronica Mars, Logan/Veronica)
Watching Veronica sleep is sometimes torturous, especially when he's just gotten back from a deployment, especially when he's spent days, weeks and even painstaking months dreaming of the moment when they were reunited.
What did I learn from this? Mostly that I miss writing, that I miss how is usually those first lines, that first paragraph that propels me to keep on writing, to try and hold on to the seemingly brilliant thing that is tried to capture in that first line and the time I'd set. Mostly though, it showed that I really have gotten away from the long and meandering at fully embraced the short-- might I even say occasionally--incomplete opening sentence. Also, I still really like obscure fandoms and if not that, obscure relationships in big fandoms. It's a curse.
