Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day 11-14

Day 11
In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?
Nope.

Even when I was young and writing was all I wanted to do with my life and I had so many dreams for what my life would be and so much potential, I hated talking about writing in relation to how I went about it. It was just such an organic thing that seemed impossible to explain.
Then I became a ~author~ for legit and HAD to talk about my process on panels and things and UGH. But, it's been a long time since I've felt like any sort of author and then I tried to get back to it, get back that feeling. One of the first things I did was joined a Blog Tour with some other local authors and 3 of the 4 blog posts I had to write, I talked about different aspects of "the process" from dealing with distractions, dealing with social media and overcoming writer's block and it was awful. I sounded like the bitter, jaded and jealous mid-level, codger author who teaches adult education classes.
I do NOT want to be that person. So yeah... here's more than you wanted to know about why I won't be talking about my creative process.
Day 12
In your own space, create your own challenge.
I actually didn't have any ideas for this one. And then I started reading other people's posts.
☆ January will be borrowed from

☆ February will be devoted to Trying New Things. For legit. Read/write in a new genre/fandom is great and totally legit, but also try new mediums, new recipes...anything. I'm going to devote February to Podficcing. *meep* I've already downloaded Audicity, found my awesome mic/headphone thing I bought a bazillion years ago when I was doing a few podcast things. I've also been following along with this tutorial that

☆ March I will be joining
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
☆ Since my birthday is at the end of March, and I treat that as almost more an important starting point than New Year, I will devote April to something that will be on my Goals list below. Organizing All My Shit. I've been avoiding that Netflix thing that everyone is talking about because I just don't have time for it to take over my life now, and it seems to be taking over people's lives, but I'll check it out for April's challenge. I also like the website UnFuck Your Habitat that someone linked to in last year's Snowflake Challenge.
I'll come up with some fun games/challenges if anyone wants to join me in organizing their home, room, closet or maybe their fic journal, art collection... whatever is unorganized in your life.
The rest of the challenges are still up in the air, so if you have posted about a fun challenge, let me know and I'll check it out. Also, if you want to join me in these challenges, go ahead and friend/follow me. I'll probably (maybe) make them public.

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year.
This was my list from last year. Let's see what still applies and what got done, shall we?
1) Be Crafty! Try new things (this one was done, but needs to be continued in the 2019)
2) Clean up and sort all the fics that The Quidditch Pitch dumped into AO3 for me when they closed down.
3) Put ALL my fics onto AO3
4) Do More
AND NEW FOR 2019:
5) Write for a minimum of 120 days for
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
6) ORGANIZE ALL MY SHIT!
7) Get to the Doctor and figure out WTF is going on with me.
Day 14
In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom.
Oh man, another think piece. Hmmmm. Well, fandom is always changing. The definition of fandom itself is always shifting and redefining itself. For me, fandom is anything I geek out about. That can be a book, show, movie, music but it can also be my hobbies, my interests, and mostly, it's my friendships, my chosen family of Also Geeks. We all don't geek out about the things anymore--we haven't in a long time (if we ever did), but we're still invested in each other's thing.
Fandom used to be something I did secretly. On LJ, in fic communities, in ship communities. Then I took it out in the world selectively at cons and meet ups. Then the canon ended. Some of us stayed and told our stories, continued where canon left off, filled in were canon lacked definition. Some of us had to fix it. Others wondered. But, we had LJ and we had DW and then we had Tumblr and reddit and twitter and Facebook and... we were EVERYWHERE!
I started geeking IRL *gasp* I started a blog series on Doctor Who on my Pro Writer website, I wrote a essay in a Doctor Who book and a Star Wars book. I got published on The Mary Sue and sat on panels at cons. I was loud and proud. I was Geek. I AM GEEK!
And I love it. I love that I don't have to hide in my computer, that I can be enthusiastic about things anywhere, everywhere. I love that I have a geek bar that has Game of Thrones and Doctor Who viewing parties and where you can go for tabletop games and D&D (though that will never be my thing). I love that my local writers group has geeky crafters like me in their number. I love that when I go to work, my BossDad and all talk Marvel vs. DC every chance we get.
But, I muss this place. The family of this place, how invested we were in each other's lives. I miss the comment threads and the stories we told, I miss the people here being the first I wanted to come and squee/commiserate with when something happened in our geek world.
I've learned through the years though, that fandom here is as full or empty as I make it. If I come here randomly and drop some silly or sad, can I really expect anyone to remember who I am? No. If I go and visit other people's lives, acknowledge their awesome, share their heartbreak, then should I expect them to do the same? Well, yes. I should. But, it starts with me.
The future of fandom--my fandom--starts with me.

Only one more day left! *\o/*
