Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day One

your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane.

I had so many ideas for this post, for this question. One great thing about being a volunteer mod for the Snowflake Challenge is that I know what is coming and when, so I have lots of time to reflect. But, well, it also means that you have a LOT to do to get ready for the Challenge and then while it is going on. This first day's post has over 600 comments WHA?!??! And while that makes me super happy, it also is a bit of an overwhelming level of awesome. And now I'm like 3 days late and want to find something short and sweet.

Then I was on Twitter (hey, did you know the Snowflake Challenge is on Twitter this year? There aren't a lot of us there, but it's super fun. It also reminded me of what makes me ridiculously happy.

♥♥THIS NERD!♥♥

Okay, firstly, I have to admit, I am the only person left in the world who hasn't seen/listened to Hamilton. I know. I will. I promise. It's only... well... I feel in love with him without Hamilton and I'm sort of afraid of the hype. I first discovered him on a 60 Minutes interview and he said something about creativity and success that stuck with me and guided me from then on.

in-Manuel Miranda: I went to a school where everyone was smarter than me and half of them were funnier then me.

Charlie Rose: So why do you think I'm sitting here talking to you and not sitting here talking to one of your classmates?

Lin-Manuel Miranda: 'Cause I picked a lane...

♥ Just that. Just finding your thing and not swerving, not deviating. I think I'll hold onto that idea for a little while longer. I'm sure I'm going to need it.

And while I haven't heard much of Hamilton, I have been gobbling up most everything else he's doing because the things he's doing are things I'm in love with. Like how he geeks about the same things that I do:

I just LOVE that so much! If you love him, Hamilton and The West Wing too, then you ABSOLUTELY have to hear him on The West Wing Weekly Podcast, it's amazing!

And of course, being a nanny, I've heard his Moana songs about a gazillion times and love them all. And then there was "Mary Poppins Returns." ♥ ♥ ♥ He was my favorite. ♥♥♥

But, it's after 2 in the morning and I am now officially 3 days late on this and I wanted this to be short and sweet, so I'll just leave this sample of my very favorite of my things about Lin. His twice daily Twitter affirmations that--swear to God--they MAKDE INTO A BOOK!!!!.

You need someone to tell you that you matter and that you're important. Lin's your man. ♥♥♥

Don't worry, you're not the only person who hasn't seen/listened to Hamilton (that's at least 2 of us!) Although, I'm definitely familiar with his work on Moana >u> It's really amazing tho how other creators can inspire us and bring us such joy <3

((And oh gosh, Day 1 was super overwhelming! I remember just sitting there, and commenting on maybe a page and a half of responses, scrolling down, seeing how many responses were left on that page alone (never mind the many pages after that) and feeling just a little sick dfghj As wonderful as it is having so many people participate and enjoy this challenge, I'll admit I'm quite glad the past two days' challenges have been quieter >.>;; ))

Day 1: happy places

Ditto. Day one was crazy. I woke up freakishly early (because I'd stayed New Year's over at a friend's house and I always wake up early in a strange bed) and checked and was all excited, "Oh, it's posted! Oh look there are 5 comments!" *replied to one* *refresh* "Oh, look there are 7 now!" *reply to another* "Wow, 13 now..." and then I went home and by the time I got there it was 50 or 60 and I started to get a little panicky. Then I remembered that my own Happy Place post was about a relaxing hot bath so I took my own advice and felt much better afterward. :-) There were obviously a ton more by the time I got out of the bath, but by then I had the perspective of "deadlines don't matter; it's all about having fun; other people are responding too so it's not all on me; look at all the new friends I'm making". :-)

Hamilton got me through the start of last year. I haven't seen it but I've listened to the original soundrack a lot. A LOT. And then I fell down Hamilton RPF rabbit-hole for a bit and that was very good too. Yes, have gobbled up a lot of other stuff LMM has done as a consequence and would agree about him being the very definitios of a happy place :D

Listen, I only read LMM/Jonathan Groff but there's tons out there if that doesn't ring your bell. But if it does, even a little bit, I cannot recommend this fic enough. The hottest thing I've read in a long time fjwifwafakl to pin me down's the hardest part guh?

Lin-Manuel Miranda

I hope to see Mary Poppins Returns this weekend. When I first heard they were doing another Mary Poppins, my first thought was "Ugh, no." I am so over Hollywood making the same films over and over, remakes, reboots, sequels... can we have one original idea, please? And then I heard Lin-Manuel Miranda was in it and went, "Oh... maybe this won't suck after all." I don't think just one person can take a garbage project and save it, but I do trust certain people to not get involved in garbage projects to begin with so it dramatically improves my starting opinion of the film.

I haven't seen Hamilton either, although I hopefully will one day. *fingers crossed*
*g* I know what you mean about him being so life affirming, though. :) He seems awesome.
