For a moment, the pain distracted Remus from what he was seeing. He’d opened wounds by pulling the blood soaked cloth from were it was covering them. After a few deep breaths through his teeth, his vision cleared and he saw what was before him. More of the dollhouse stage, this time a castle with a train track before it. Around the track were a collection of puppets, the cat, an owl, a king and a older lady with reddened cheeks and nose who sounded very putt out.
“This is highly irregular, King Friday!”
“I daresay I agree,” said the white haired, crowned puppet. “But the man needs help, medical attention.”
“But there’s all that blood,” said the owl. “We’re not equipped with the tools he needs.”
“And how did he get here? Meow, meow.”
That was a good question, Remus thought. He looked around, but couldn’t see any way that non-puppet sized human-type people could come and go. Surely, this wasn’t all there was to the town. Surely there were others like him… sort of? There had to be, he reasoned. If they’d never seen a human before, his being there would upset them much more than his injuries did.
Just when he was thinking that, a woman appeared. A young, beautiful woman.
“Oh, Lady Aberlin, thank goodness!” The King exclaimed.
They all began to talk excitedly at once and she had just raised her hand in an attempt to get them to stop, when she saw Remus.
She covered her mouth with her hands. “Oh dear.”
She came to him. “Are you okay.”
“Not even a little bit.”
“How did you get here?”
He shrugged, then winced. “I don’t know.”
“What happened to you?”
“Werewolf.”
“A werewolf did this?” she asked.
Well, that’s not untrue, Remus thought. “Wait, you believe in werewolves?”
“Of course. In the Neighborhood of Make Believe, we believe in everything.”
“The… Neighborhood of what now?”
“The Neighborhood of Make Believe. That’s where you are.”
