Day 5

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

Okay, this is going to get long and probably take me forever, because I don't make things easy for myself and bookmark hardly ever but here goes.

Firstly, I've been incredibly remiss to gush publicly with the bounty that has been my fest season. I know recs for gift fic are taken with a grain of salt, I mean, how could I not love something written for me specifically, right? But firstly, recs are always subjective and secondly, a fic shouldn't be punished just because it was written for me, yes?

Fics written for me, but you'll enjoy too... probably: )

Non-Gift fic From HP Fests: )

And finally, two random fics from the 1st day of the Snowflake Challenge: )

See? I told you that was going to be ridiculously long. But you know what I always say: Go Big or Go Home. (Actually never said that before in my life.) ♥

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

2 Harry Potter and a White Collar )
tjs_whatnot: (txt--want to lick your mind)
What have I been doing to get over my post-election funk? Reading of course. I had gone to my comfort-read file (just kidding, I don't have one of those, because that's what smart, well put together people have. All I have are vague recollections of fics that made me happy and other smart, well put together people's rec lists). But then [ profile] interhouse_fest began posting and since I try really hard to participate as much as I can in fests I write for, I started reading.

There are some delightful things over there getting little to no love and so I thought, if people are like me and leery about pairings and stories from unknown writers and are looking for someone to bite the bullet for them first and report back whether it is worth their time, I would take it upon myself to be that person. So here I am, reporting back with the ones I've read so far that I think a lot more people would enjoy. I'm about a week in a half behind, so there are others that I'll have to report back on later (and if you have read anything from there in that time that are good, please let me know, cool?)

The Road to Nowhere (Fred/Pansy) 12.6k, R, War A/U.
A Beautiful Kind of Strange (Ron/Luna) 4.5k, NC-17
Crashing Into Place (George/Luna) 5.8k, R
In the Public Interest (Pansy/Neville) 3.3K, NC-17
Snakes and Ladders (Astoria/Ginny) 4.1k, NC-17
The Strange Case of the Missing Twins, the Black Kneazle, and the Sepia Photograph (Padma and Pavarti and a whole slew of secondary characters) 8k, PG-13

And that's it for now. I'll try to catch up with both this fest (and my Nano) by the end of the holiday weekend. ♥♥

Day 4

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something.

I might come back and create something later. All those above suggestions sound fun and doable... but not right now. Right now I'm going to spend this time and space to pay tribute to other people's creations.

Week Two: White Collar Recs

Okay, so I just went back and checked my tags because I didn't want to rec things I've already gushed about, and was horrified to discover that I have recced very little of what I have read and loved over the years.

So, brace yourself, this is going to get ridiculous!

Shit Ton of White Collar Recs Under Here )

And holy crap that took longer than I had planned. In fact, this has taken so long, it might have to be my contribution to Caffrey/Burke Day. :( I had planned for so much more, which is sadly these days, the story of my life. *sob*

Week One: Random Fandom

I was going to go back and read all the yuletide fics from fandoms I love in all the years I've participated. Yeah... I only got through half of the first year. Oooops.

But I do have 3 very different stories to share with you from that small amount of fic I read. Basically, in my experience, yuletide (at least in the fandoms I enjoy) almost always puts out the very best fic. So, mostly I'd just like to recommend going to the list of fandoms and finding your faves.

Now I'm going to go and READ ALL THE WHITE COLLAR FIC!! w000000t!

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Man, this is a sort of bad day for this. I'm having a pretty low-self esteem writing day. I don't even want to look at my stories. But I do want to remember the times when I wrote things for people and they were very happy to receive them and told me what it meant to them. So here, have some stories that someone at sometime liked rather a lot.
3 Old School Harry Potter Self Recs )

And I was going to go on and whine about the state of affairs in comments and lament that kudos and "likes" aren't equivalent and are sort of worse than no comment at all on gift fics, but then I remembered that this is a public post, and I don't want to be that person. Though, I guess I am and now adding passive-aggressive to the list of asshole-moves I possess--sorry about that.

Anyway. Fun challenge! I hope to check out some new fics on other people's posts as well. w00t! New-To-Me-Fic! ♥♥
tjs_whatnot: (Default)

I have a lot of recs to make. I've been reading a shit ton of stories during the break. \o/

But, for now (I'm holding off some because I know that will be something required of me for the upcoming Fandom Snowflake Challenge) here are some amazing fics that I received as gifts for no other reason than I've been a very good person this year. Mostly.

First, from Kinky Kristmas at Daily Deviant.

The Seven Year Itch NC-17, 2,800 words, Harry/Ron and Hermione.
Summary: They'd been through worse, all for him, so Harry could deny them nothing...

asdfja;sfjasf You see, Hermione's got an itch. And it's Ron fault. The only way to cure her is for the boys to, well, you'll see.

This is just a really fun story with a lot of my favorite things: domesticity gone horrible wrong, awkward dirty talk and boys being secretly hot for each other with neither of them willing to admit it. :))

And a second gift for me at KK! I know! What have I done to deserve it?!?!

A Cunning Tongue NC-17, 4,100 words, Harry/Luna/Snape
Summary: There are so many ways to enjoy a silver tongue.

I had asked for a Harry/Luna story, or a Snape/Luna story and then, even though I didn't imagine it in a million years would be taken a Harry/Luna/Snape story. HOLY SHIT, GUYS! This is hot! And so interestingly told. The title and the summary don't give you much in way of explanation so I'll try and do it justice myself. Luna is Snape's barrister and gets him out of prison. Then they sort of just... take care of him. As only Harry and Luna can do. ♥♥

Now for Yuletide!

Love Me Because Nothing Happens (3707 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: MASH (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, B.J. Hunnicutt

I requested MASH because I had never read a bad story from this fandom in the fest and so I knew no matter what, I wouldn't be disappointed. And boy was I rewarded for this assumption! It is hurty and comforty and has an exquisite Hawkeye and Hunnicut is flawless in this. Just...

Day 9

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) but you ended up loving.

So many choices... I could whip out that watersports fic I read a few years ago that was oddly, pleasantly not horrible. OR that fisting thing...

But, I just realized my tags are horrible and I ran out of ways to find those stories that didn't require an awkward google search.

But, these are even better. These I loved so much that I remembered where I had placed them. :)

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

It's actually really hard to rec yourself. Who knew? )

Recs the First: For me--Sports Night and The Sparrow plus, more Sports Night, M*A*S*H, The Newsroom, Northern Exposure, Suri’s Burn Book and The Olympics Opening Ceremony )

Of course, if you read anything you like, please make an author’s day and leave a comment. Or at the VERY least, a kudo! ♥♥
tjs_whatnot: (housewives drunk pillpopper)
I am drinking. Again.

And also reading!

You guys, I can't even explain to you how very glorious my Yuletide present is! I want everyone in the world to read it! I want to shout it from the rooftops.

Sadly though, it is one of those books that very few people I know have read--I know, that's what Yuletide is about, but this author went above and beyond because not only did they write me THE SPARROW OMGOMG! They also referenced (per my request) the sequel! So, while there are a few people I know who have read The Sparrow, very few of them have read the sequel.

But if you have. Please, treat yourself right and go and read:

Patrilineage It is Emilio and John Condotti, and Felipe Reyes, and D.W. Yarborough and Supaari, and just PERFECTION! ♥♥

Also, also, I can't believe I forgot to link these to the Fandom Festivus Post of Yesterday! Everything Sounds More Official With Caps. No Lie.

White Collar and White Collar Adjacent Holiday Shenanigans )

Retro Holiday-ish Bromance FTW! )

And this one has nothing to do with bromance, White Collar or the actors that grace it, but it is one of my favorite holiday moments on any show.

Penny Gives Sheldon Leonard Nimoy For Christmas

Again, I love you all!

PS--LJ you suck! This post happened hours ago on Dreamwidth. :(((((
tjs_whatnot: (Default)
Where has this amazingness been all my life!?! Srsly, I am in awe and slightly intimidated by the level of lovely talent in this fest. For real, if I haven't recced it, it's because I haven't read it. I have yet to read anything in this fest that didn't have some sort of literary or lol-ish merit.

I'm even intimidated to be making recs as I've looked at everyone else's and they're all so very articulate and well described and all I want to do is flail and be ridiculously in love.

But lets see if I can do this thing: Eight Fics from Wayyyy Random Fandoms )

So that's it for now. I hope to have at least one more rec list before reveals happen.

Point me to your recs, k?

tjs_whatnot: (drunkeness--wasted minerva)
...and who doesn't really? Then might I suggest you start here:

Kinky Kristmas Recs Listed Thematically )

I hope you find something you like and please let me know of anything amazing you have found-- which reminds me, I gotta go, I have heard there is a Remus/Severus/Ron out there somewhere!

tjs_whatnot: (Firth)
So, Kinky Kristmas is going along swimmingly so far. I'm all caught up on reading (after I read today's stories) and so far there have only been two that I didn't read because of pairing and two because of kinks that squick me. Not bad for the delicate flower that I have become recently. I usually try and stretch myself on the characters and kinks and try pairings and naughties, but maybe its a bit too early in the month for that... maybe later. ♥

But enough about that. I found a gem of a fic over there and want to rec it for any of my friends not following the fest:

Old Habits Are the Sweetest anon Harry/Hermione/Ron, NC-17, 5k. Summary provided by author: “Well,” Ron says, raising his glass of whiskey, “we're here now. So.” He clinks glasses with Hermione. “Here's to the third Tuesday of the month.”

alkdfasl;kdfj This was just amazingly well done as it was smutty as hell, but it wasn't ALL it was about and the sex wasn't just there for our titillation, it revealed character, relationship, place in time and set the tone. The POV shifts are flawless as we get to travel around and see each of them through each of them's eyes, but I never got lost or even noticed the shift. I really want to figure out how the author did that! What I really loved was how at peace, comfortable and respectful they all are of each other but how there is also something of stunted dysfunction that rides along on the underbelly and makes it all the more gorgeous.

One of my favorite bits under the cut because... )

I highly recommend it. And please, for the love of GOD, if you read something, and it keeps you reading to the end of the story, PLEASE, leave a comment. Even if it is just, "Nice" or "Hot" or repeats all that had been said before. It really means a lot to writers to know they're stuff is being read. ♥♥ I know you all know this, but it doesn't hurt to put it out there.
