Sadly though, the story was not complete by posting day. Then you will know the rampant and jostling emotions that are in these songs, you will know why it makes sense to put a Dar Williams song on a soundtrack with Nine Inch Nails.

So yeah, when I first signed up for this fic, I thought, yay, and had all these grand designs to do something witty and ironic like upbeat jazz music from the era, as that seems to be a theme in music, the more horrific the war, the more mindless the music.

Then I read the story.

I instantly started freaking out that there wasn't enough death-metal in the world to fully articulate how much rage I felt. Not for Albert, never for Albert ♥♥ALBERT♥♥ But on his behalf.

Then two things happened. First one was a mixed blessing. My computer crashed and I lost the songs I had selected for this story. ;______; The good news was that the computer I got to borrow was owned by a 18 year old girl and was RIFE with ANGRY, ANGRY music. But don't worry, the second thing that happened was I remembered Bob Dylan's "Masters of War." The lyrics literally jumped into my mind completely uninvited:

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead.

Right? I think that fully articulated my rage. And yes, I know that it was meant to be an anti-war protest song about the actual war machine, but I think it works in this context too.

So, most of the songs are about rage, pain and death type shenanigans. OR...OR they are about family, about brothers, about having someone to rely on and count on and whose life you would give yours for and vice versa. Hence how Dar Williams, Mumford and Sons and The Joy Formidable wound up mixed with Foo Fighters, Tokio Hotel and Eddie Vedder. ♥EDDIE♥

So, I hope that you find this a fine representation of the fiction and the emotions it instills. Mostly, I hope that wwmrsweasleydo isn't horrified by my choices. I loved this story! I had to cry...a lot... but I loved it. ♥

comments
